Pazos Media, a progressive Public Relations firm based in Los Angeles with offices in Madrid (Spain), is launching on April 22 the first edition of AvLA // Avant-Los Angeles at Club Monte Cristo in Koreatown: The event is a fusion of Visual Art + Theatre +Jazz Music + Avant-Garde Music + Electronic Music.
Interdisciplinary theatre collective Source Material will be presenting a preview of their second original piece “I Should Have a Party For All The Thoughts I Didn’t Say”, performance that magically blends live music with dance and performance. Visual artists Londubh Studio and Kaliisa Conlon will be showcasing an original and immersive sculpture designed exclusively for the occasion. Jazz musician and composer Daniel Rosenboom will be playing the first single of his new album “Astral Transference & Seven Dreams”. Avant-garde singer and composer Dorian Wood is back from his successful European tour and will perform some of his biggest hits accompanied by a guitarist and an accordion. Keenhouse, an electronic musician, will be performing songs off his new album “A Future Past”, a production that blends electronic sounds with classical instruments.
“Los Angeles is very often identified as the city of celebrities and Hollywood. However, there are plenty of extremely talented artists from different parts of the world who come here to show their passion, their creations-projects that most of the time are unheard and ignored. I decided to create AvLA, to show everybody that this city has more to offer. That’s the core of Pazos Media- to provide talented artists with the media exposure they deserve,” Pazos Media CEO Santiago affirms.
Source Material // Interdisciplinary Theatre
Source Material is presenting a preview of their second original piece, "I Should Have a Party For All The Thoughts I Didn't Say", following up on their award winning (Best Dance/Physical Theatre, The Duende Distinction, and Encores! Producers' Award) piece "Into The Fog" at the Hollywood Fringe. Source Material is an international artistic collective founded by theatre artist, producer, and multi faceted artist Samantha Shay in 2014. "I Should Have a Party For All The Thoughts I Didn't Say" is Shay's love letter to Russian writer Anton Chekhov, a feast of atmosphere and rhythms, performed almost entirely without dialogue.
Dorian Wood // Avant-garde singer and composer
Singer/composer Dorian Wood will be performing a uniquely intimate set accompanied by his longtime guitarist Michael Corwin. Hailed by the LA Weekly as "a fearless artist and performer whose voice inhabits a room like a choir of ghosts", Wood returns to Los Angeles after two successful European tours in 2014.
Daniel Rosenboom // Jazz musician
Creative and prolific trumpet artist, composer, and producer, Daniel Rosenboom, will be presenting Astral Transference from his latest album on Orenda Records. Hailed as "wildly ambitious" and awarded 5/5 stars by All About Jazz, this epic 31-minute piece blends the morphing rhythm of minimalism and the dynamic interplay of jazz with the pulsing groove of electronic dance music into a swirling, psychedelic and totally immersive sonic experience.
Keenhouse // Electronic musician
Keenhouse will be presenting music from his third and most ambitious album “A Future Past”, a powerful transition to acoustic instruments combined with synthetic sounds, which unquestionably is an inherent part of Keenhouse’s style. The first single “Argon Decibel” has received airplay on radio stations such as KCRW, Bermudafunk, and more. A CD version for Japan and Remix version of the album will follow in spring 2015.
Londubh Studio & Kaliisa Conlon // Visual Artists
Los Angeles-based Londubh Studio creates large-scale works of art using materials including polished plaster, metal leaf, and of course, paint. Every piece of theirs is custom-tailored to the space where it will live and one-of-a-kind. Sometimes their work hangs on a wall. Sometimes the actual wall is their canvas, if not a ceiling or a floor or whatever surface beckons. Recently, they re-finished the facade of the iconic DTLA restaurant, Clifton’s Cafeteria, and were featured in Sunset Magazine for a mural they did at the first Los Angeles Sunset Magazine Showcase House.
Kaliisa Conlon is an Artist based in Los Angeles, California. Using photography and collage, Kaliisa explores her fascination with symbolism and psychic experience. Color, light and visions of infinity inspire her to make art. Kaliisa is creating a new series exploring notions of time, using analog and digital textures. Kaliisa envisions life as the ultimate canvas, every moment an opportunity for inspiration.
Londubh Studio and Kaliisa Conlon are teaming up to create an installation entitled 'Fortune Favours The Brave' in tribute to the faith artists must have in themselves to pursue their dreams. Londubh, meaning black bird in 'Irish Gaelic', often feature birds or feathers in their colourful and textured custom art panels and decorative finishes that can be found in private homes and commercial spaces throughout California and beyond. Kaliisa Conlon is an amazing work of art unto herself who breezes between the many mediums she works with, from photography to fashion styling to graphic design and filmmaking. These three women moved down here together 5.5 years ago in pursuit of big things. Their collaboration will feature an illuminated pyramid surrounded by wings of custom coloured plasters and mixed metal leaf in honour of an artist's decision to spread his or her wings and fly.
